For Memorial Day Weekend we went camping at Palo Duro Canyon. It is a State Park in Canyon, TX which is about six hours away. It was Sam’s off Friday so we pulled Gavin and Renée out of school to make a four day trip out of it. Blake came with us and the rest of the Nelsons joined us that evening.
The drive was nice because there isn’t really much between Fort Worth and Canyon, which meant we didn’t hit any traffic. We did pass some ghost towns and a whole lot of oil wells. When we got to Palo Duro we stopped at the look out point. Blake took our family picture. We also stopped at the museum and trading post. The kids tried on some awesome hats.
After we got our camp set up, we set up both the tents, we went on a two mile hike on Sunflower trail. We borrowed the Angerbauer’s baby backpack for Carter which was really nice since he wasn’t much of a walker. The trail had some beautiful views and the kids had fun climbing the rocks. Gavin picked up a beetle that bit him, that didn’t go well. When we made it to the end of the trail, Gavin and Blake discovered a rattle snake. It was at least five feet long but they stayed far enough away and ran and got Sam and I right away. I think it was the highlight of Gavin’s whole trip.
That night we made berry cobbler and the Nelson’s showed up with some ice cream to go with it. There was a full moon that night and it was like sleeping with the lights on. Next time I go camping I am bringing an eye cover.

I love these pictures and the post! How fun!! This looks awesome and totally reminds me of our moab trip (or wherever we went in southern utah over a decade ago!) That was so fun. This looks so much like that. Where is Palo Duro anyway?!
Talk to you later!
Jill
